Why are we hosting this meeting?
With the Canada-Wide Early Learning & Child Care (CWELCC) plan, the government of Canada committed to creating an early learning and child care (ELCC) system. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make affordable child care a reality for communities across the country. However, due to inaction from the Ontario government, the child care sector in our province continues to face multiple challenges. At a time when growth and stability have felt more possible than ever, provincial underfunding continues to deeply impact the well-being of children, families, and child care professionals.
It doesn't have to be this way. An ELCC system that meets the needs of everyone: children, families & educators is possible. The AECEO & the OCBCC are working towards a system where:
- Families can rely on finding a child care space in their neighbourhood when they need it, no matter where they live
- Children have a caring and joyful place to play and learn each day
- Early childhood educators & child care workers are respected for their knowledge and skills and feel valued with good jobs & high wages
