On July 24th, child care community members and organizations are coming together to speak directly to decision makers about the change they need. This will be a space for educators, parents, and operators to discuss current issues, to share concerns with elected officials, and to hear how politicians can be champions for child care.
Since we planned this event, the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) announced that they are cutting ECE wages due to financial instability caused by the Ontario government's underfunding of child care. ECEs all over Ontario are bearing the brunt of the province’s mishandling of implementing the $10/ day child care program. This is unacceptable. The AECEO continues to advocate for higher wages for all child care staff. Lowering ECE pay cannot be the answer. ECEs and child care staff are worth more and deserve protection against wage cuts.
Advocacy is more important than ever. We are responding in community to push back against injustice and demand that the Ontario government prioritize professional pay and decent work for all.
