SUMMARY:Heating Up\, Burning Out: Decent Work in the new normal of the climate crisis
DESCRIPTION:How hot is too hot? Summers in Ontario are getting hotter and lasting longer\, from record-breaking temperatures to unprecedented wildfires\, the climate crisis is no longer a tomorrow reality\, it’s a today reality. \nIn this “new normal”\, ECEs – and everyone who works in the sector – continue to do some of the most important work in the world. As temperatures creep upwards\, we stay committed to creating safety and comfort for children\, and building communities for families and each other. \nThis interactive online event will give you an opportunity to talk about what decent work looks like in these conditions\, knowing that educator’s working conditions are children’s learning conditions.\nWe will: \n\nTalk about our rights to work in safety – and how those rights can protect children\nHear your experiences\nShare resources (including prizes to help beat the heat!)\nSee how activists and advocates are pushing for change to keep everyone safe in the heat.\n\nIf you’d like to dive into this topic a little further\, this article from the Toronto Star paints a clear and stark picture about the impacts of heat on children\, and the situation in classrooms for children and educators. \nPlease note: This session is open for anyone – RECEs\, child care workers\, ECE students\, new grads – to attend at no cost. If you’d like to support this kind of initiative\, please consider becoming a member of the AECEO. \nThe AECEO will NEVER sell or otherwise share your information. We ask for your address so we can be sure we are reaching ECEs and allies in every part of Ontario. SUMMARY:ECE Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Early childhood educators are experts at building relationships and following children’s lead to create learning opportunities based on their interests. But… What happens when we let ECEs’ own curiosity lead the way? \nIn ECE Field Trip\, participants are invited to build community with the land\, creatures\, and one another: we are making space for ECEs to experience and explore their surroundings together\, without being in the role of caregiver. Join us for a special ECE Field Trip along the Humber Recreational Trail for a chance to (re)connect with your inner child\, tap into your sense of wonder\, and learn more about why intentionally creating opportunities for ECE joy\, curiosity\, and friendship is crucial to sustaining our passion for the wonderful and demanding role of early childhood educator. \nOur new date for ECE Field Trip is next Sunday\, August 30th. If it rains again next Sunday\, our ECE Field Trip will be moved to September 13th. \nWe will take the 55 bus from Jane station to enter the trail at the access point near Home Smith Park (Royal York Rd at Dundas St West). According to the information available\, most of the path is paved and pretty flat. Our Field Trip will end by Old Mill station. \nBring: Comfortable walking shoes\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, hat\, weather appropriate clothing\, snacks\, and curiosity! \nPlease note: This CARE Collective event is available as a part of the AECEO’s ongoing commitment to creating a strong united voice for all ECEs in Ontario. If you’d like to support this kind of work\, please consider becoming a member of the AECEO. \nThe AECEO will NEVER sell or otherwise share your information. We ask for your address so we can be sure we are reaching ECEs and allies in every part of Ontario.
