Work Term:          Full Time Permanent 12 months

Location:              Westcreek, Pickering

 Salary:                 Level 1 Site Supervisor or dependent upon current

                              Supervisory level at Schoolhouse

 Duties and Responsibilities:             

  • Implement a philosophy of early childhood education and care that reflects both the organization’s philosophy and an ability to be an effective pedagogical mentor and leader
  • Ability to work in partnership with families, external agencies, school staff and administration and colleagues to ensure an inclusive environment for families and children
  • Evaluate staff annually to ensure their skill sets are maintained and assist in their continuous professional learning
  • Provide budget information to the Executive Director as required along with ensuring collection and management of the centre’s revenues
  • Adhere to all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements as well as the policies and procedures of Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham
  • Maintain a safe workplace and implement security measures that adhere to both organizational and school policies and procedures
  • Model professionalism at all times while exhibiting and promoting ethical behaviours of self and staff within the organization

Qualifications:     

  • ECE degree or diploma and current registration with College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Minimum of 3 years RECE experience along with previous experience as a Supervisor in a licensed child care program
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Experience and/or sound knowledge of toddler, preschool, kindergarten and schoolage needs and development
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, colleagues and external agencies
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to effectively manage change as required
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen?, Education Learning for Every Child Today, Durham Region Operating Criteria and Schoolhouse policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Office Center and Microsoft Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment including the ability to lead a large team
