By signing below you are showing support for the professional pay for professional work campaign and will receive updates!

The overarching goal of this campaign is to address the long-standing issue of low and inequitable compensation for early childhood educators (ECEs) in Ontario. We are calling on the government to fund professional pay for all ECEs in Ontario regardless of where they work. Professional pay should reflect ECEs’ specialized training, the value of their work and their participation in continuous professional learning.

No ECE should have to work for less than a professional wage and all ECEs should be recognized for their professional qualifications and practice.

For more information on the campaign please see http://www.aeceo.ca/professional_pay_for_professional_work

Early childhood educators deserve to earn wages that reflect the hard work and dedication that they show on a daily basis for our children.

I have been a Family Provider, starting in 1997 and my biggest concern is that we Family Providers are not recognized for, yet meet for the most part, teaching of mixed ages, a broad and deep foundation, prior to K. This includes classroom rules like speaking in turn, standing in line, raising their hands to answer, using verbal manners such as “May I be excused?” And “Excuse me” to walk by. This also includes dressing, cleaning up after each activity etc.,.

We repeatedly out perform Public Pre-K because we are paid on our own scale and are personally invested in our Classrooms since they are attached to our homes or are in our homes. We are more concerned with sanitizing and keeping kids clean because they pose a threat to our families also by being in our homes. We also have more flexibility in field trips etc.,.,Just a walk around the neighborhood is a field trip. To visit the puppy next door, the old lady and sing her a song! Many real life opportunities that have to be simulated in a Center for teaching.
