By signing below you are showing support for the professional pay for professional work campaign and will receive updates!

The overarching goal of this campaign is to address the long-standing issue of low and inequitable compensation for early childhood educators (ECEs) in Ontario. We are calling on the government to fund professional pay for all ECEs in Ontario regardless of where they work. Professional pay should reflect ECEs’ specialized training, the value of their work and their participation in continuous professional learning.

No ECE should have to work for less than a professional wage and all ECEs should be recognized for their professional qualifications and practice.

For more information on the campaign please see http://www.aeceo.ca/professional_pay_for_professional_work

Most RECE’s work 8 hour days IN the classroom with an unpaid lunch and NO planning time and yet we make $30 000-$40000 a year if we are lucky. A kindergarten teacher works a 6 hour day that INCLUDES a paid 40 minute lunch and 40 minutes of planning time daily as well as 2 15 minute breaks. This means they are only with the children for 4 hours a day and yet their wage starts at $50000 for 10 months. How is that fair?

with the level of work that is required and that must follow the ministry of education guidelines minimum wage doesn’t cut it! The work volume is that of a kindergarten teacher and they can make up to 80K a year and ours is a sad 39k …where is the fairness in that?!!?

The Public needs to be educated about our “Profession”. Our profession is misunderstood and at times apathetic. The campaign should include that we are not “caregivers”, babysitters or nannies. We are Professional Early Childhood Educators.

I would love to see government officials / the media focus on speaking with RECE’s and observing the profession in action. Most people don’t have a clue about the importance of what we do, the regulations we need to follow or the number of hats we can wear in a typical day!

I would also love to see RECE’s in Ontario unite much like the teachers have over the years. I would like to believe that it is coming soon!

ECE’s learn about children from child development. We are a valuable part of a child’s early years. I believe we deserve due recognition and it should reflect through professional pay. That will be an important way to show society of our importance.
