Pauline Lee commented on Open letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne about proposed changes to staff: child ratios and group sizes in Ontario child care centres 2016-03-17 19:36:32 -0400These proposed changes are enraging. Anyone who has ever worked in the ECEC sector knows that a 12-month-old and an 18-month-old are NOWHERE near the same developmental level. Most infants are not even 100% steady on their feet at 12 months and you want them to be in the same room as toddlers who are running around?! You will be endangering many children if this proposal is made a reality.
Education Minister Liz Sandals said in a written statement: “The proposed changes to age grouping, ratios, group size and staff qualifications will strengthen quality, increase access and reflect the feedback we received from childcare licensees.”
WHAT FEEDBACK? Because all I see, hear, and read are people everywhere OPPOSING these proposed changes. Please rethink your proposal, for the sake of RECES and all child care providers, parents, and especially the children.

By signing below you are showing support for the professional pay for professional work campaign and will receive updates!
The overarching goal of this campaign is to address the long-standing issue of low and inequitable compensation for early childhood educators (ECEs) in Ontario. We are calling on the government to fund professional pay for all ECEs in Ontario regardless of where they work. Professional pay should reflect ECEs’ specialized training, the value of their work and their participation in continuous professional learning.
No ECE should have to work for less than a professional wage and all ECEs should be recognized for their professional qualifications and practice.
