Proposed Changes to Day Nurseries Act Won't Support Quality Care

Proposed regulatory changes to the Day Nurseries Act would have fewer staff caring for larger groups of children in early learning and care programs. The AECEO made clear its concerns regarding proposed changes, while attending this week's Ministry of Children and Youth Services consultation meeting. Children and families would be better served if legislative and regulatory changes were made after new programs were in place. This would be consistent with the early learning report commissioned by the government. It recommends legislative changes be made two to three years down the road. Furthermore the AECEO has serious concerns regarding proposed ratio changes.

The AECEO will continue to monitor this issue, and advocate for ECEs, and the continued provision of quality care for children.
