Best Start Consultant - Sudbury, ON

Term contract, up to 6 months – 30 hours per week 

Location - Sudbury 

Working on the day-to-day operations within the Best Start Hub (BSH) team, you will work in collaboration with BSH staff as well as neighbourhood partners in the provision of BSH services to children and their families. You will support and recommend evidence-based child guidance strategies and development guidelines to parents/caregivers, plan, develop, and implement family-centered early learning programs as well as facilitate workshops, discussion groups or individual family sessions. 

Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, you have a degree or diploma in early childhood education or a related field. An analytical problem-solver, you have a minimum of four (4) years of experience working with children and their families including children with special needs. Your knowledge and adaptation of Ontario’s Pedagogy “How Does Learning Happen?” will support your implementation of play-based child and family learning. Your awareness of children’s services and appropriate resources, client needs assessment, and methods for curriculum and training design is complemented by a valid CPR and First Aid certification. A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are required. The ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.

Quality Assurance Analyst (Bilingual - English/French) Toronto,ON

Major Responsibilities: 

Reporting to the Program Manager Children's Services, Quality and Capacity Building, the Quality Assurance Analyst (Bilingual – English/French): 

  • Conducts joint field audits with supervisors and/or peers to determine adherence to standardized assessment procedures and makes recommendations as required
  • Conducts on-site quality assurance assessments on a city-wide basis
  • Evaluates licensed child care programs to monitor program quality and facilities, ensuring municipal and other legislated regulations and standards are maintained
  • Educates Child Care Operators on the quality assurance requirements for their premises
  • Identifies areas of non-compliance and initiates corrective action
  • Documents and reports the results of quality assurance assessments to management personnel, including posting the results on the public website
  • Prepares reports for contracted agencies, internal files and divisional use
  • Provides consultation to District Consultants on quality assurance related issues
  • Develops and implements in-service education sessions for peers and other divisional staff
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations on the Divisional Training Plan related to professional development and training required to improve child care quality
  • Conducts periodic review of records/reports to determine timeliness and completeness of assigned workloads
  • Develops, implements and maintains operational procedures, information systems, administrative documentation and record control for quality assurance processes        
  • Participates on internal committees and work groups

Key Qualifications: 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Fully bilingual (English/French), in order to communicate effectively in English and French, with all internal and external stakeholders in person, by telephone and in writing
  2. Current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  3. Considerable experience in licensed child care work including knowledge of policies and procedures related to the operation of a child care center including applied knowledge of child and human development theories.
  4. Experience in program development and evaluation related to the provision of human services.
  5. Experience in effectively identifying problems and in proposing solutions.

You must also have:  

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to establish good working relationships the public and other staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislation and policies governing the delivery of child care, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Child Care and Early Years Act, Child and Family Services Act, in addition to other relevant legislation governing child care.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision independently and to meet monthly assessment targets reliably.
  • Ability to organize and supervise field work and exercise initiative and independent judgement.
  • Ability to articulate the Provinces expectations related to pedagogy.
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer software programs including but not limited to MS Office.
  • Knowledge of the Children's Services Information System is an asset.
