This Toolkit will support local Decent Work and Professional Pay Communities of Practice, early years and child care programs, individual RECEs/early years staff and ECE students as they engage in actions.
We can work together to shape the future of Ontario’s early years and child care system.
Provincial Week of Action
The Provincial week of Action is October 14 - 21, 2018. This year's theme is CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN in recognition of the essential role that educators play in the lives of our youngest learners.
During the Week of Action we want to highlight ECEPower by raising the voices of ECEs and early years staff across Ontario. Our toolkit is designed to get you started in planning a local action to call for Professional Pay and Decent Work and to show appreciation for all ECEs and early years staff.
Be sure to share with us your plans or photos by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org so we can highlight your action and raise our collective voice!
October 16th will be the 18th Annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day.
We have joined forces with the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC) to make the week surrounding Appreciation Day, October 14th-21st, a Week of Action to support educators in their campaign for decent work and professional pay.
We’ve put together this Action Toolkit to provide you with all the campaign know-how you need to: organize popular events; earn media coverage; get noticed by decision makers; and bring together the community to support your campaign.
Together we can ensure that those in power feel our #ECEPower!
Want to get more involved. Use our Action Toolkit. Your voice matters!
This action is designed to raise the profile of ECEs and early years' staff, while also highlighting some of the challenges you face in the early years. Inspired by the Humans of Basic Income.campaign.
Think about what makes you special as an ECE or early years' staff and what challenges you may face related to this.
Download the template here, write your short story and take a picture and send it us at email@example.com or post it to social media using the hashtags #ECEPower #ECEAppreciation #DecentWork #Champions4Children
Use your imagination...Paint your Appreciation!
On October 16th Use your imagination...Paint your Appreciation!
A mural can be a great activity to involve families and children and creates a great visual for spreading messages of appreciation to ECEs, as well as using our campaign slogans of champions for children, child care champions, decent work and universal child care.
Cut out a large piece of mural paper. Write or paint a central slogan in very large print on the centre of the mural paper - “Champions for Children”, “Child Care Champions” etc. This will anchor the look of the mural and ensure that our main message is seen.
If you are doing this at a child care, EarlyON centre or FDK, encourage children and parents to contribute to the mural with their own pictures or messages of appreciation. If you are doing this at a college or university encourage both students and faculty to take part.
Here are a few more things you can do to get involved.
